Special Note from Father Scott

An Important Note On Church Security and Access - The Church Office will generally be open between 9:00 a.m. and 2;00 p.m. from Monday - Thursday. The only door that will be open is the office door facing McGee Ave. to the right of the Church entrance. For security purposes you may find this door is locked at times. If so, please ring the new doorbell we recently installed. If the Rector or Parish secretary is in, we will provide access. For your convenience you may wish to call the Parish Office to let us know you are coming (unless you have a scheduled appointment.)

Empty inkjet or toner cartridges - If you have these lying around your home or if you have old cell phones, don't throw them away, just bring them into the office and Katherine will send them away and recycle them for money for the Church. How easy is that! Questions? Call the office at 513-424-1254. We just received a check for the Church in the amount of $125.00 this month just for empty cartridges, so keep them coming!

St. Stephen's Campus Ministry at The Ohio State University - If you have a student at OSU looking for Christian fellowship, have them check out the St. Stephen's Ministry on campus or they can e-mail them at CampusMinistry@ststephens-columbus.org.

Help All of Us Conserve Energy! Please close doors behind you to rooms that are air-conditioned to conserve on energy. Please do not prop open doors between the kitchen and Great Hall or Little Hall when the air-conditioning is running as the exhaust vents in the kitchen just sucks the cool air to the outside. Remind those locking up to turn the air-conditioning to a higher temperature or off so it doesn't run so much when no one is in the room. This not only saves the congregation on their energy bill, but helps our environment as well!

Hospice Care of Middletown A group of local, caring compassionate people dedicated to bringing a Hospice program to Greater Middletown, started Hospice Care of Middletown, Inc. October 11, 2004. While we will not be licensed to accept patients before March, we are hard at work getting everything ready for that time.

Our goal is to be a local hospice. We want to use local community services to support Middletown families in need. We will employ local staff that know the territory, are able to respond to requests for equipment and services in a prompt and timely fashion and will not promise services we cannot provide. Patients can be cared for here in their own homes, here in our own hospital, and here in our local nursing facilities without the need for a long commute. We want to provide "high touch-low tech", a very hands-on approach. Hospice Care of Middletown will provide hospice care for patients and their families in the greater Middletown area, regardless of ability to pay. We will bill Medicare and other insurance companies when available.

We hope you will give us your prayers and support. Any questions, please call Sarah Kaup at 424-0535.

Food Pantry Sunday -Each month on the last Sunday of the month, we will be asking for donations to the Ascension Food Pantry. Here's this month's items needed: baked beans, ketchup, and spaghetti sauce. Watch the bulletin announcements for further items needed or you may make a monetary donation toward the Pantry Fund as well. Thank you for your generosity!

Meijer Community Rewards Cards - Sign up for a Meijer Community Rewards Card in October and the church will get $2 in addition to a percentage of your grocery budget. This is free money for the church. Please use your card when you are at Meijers. Our organization code is 838855. You can apply at www.meijer.com or at the store.

Aluminum Can Recycling and Dillman Tape Ministry Update - So far in 2004, we have collected $30.22 for recycling cans. Please put your cans in the green trashcan by the dumpster. Please only put aluminum cans in the green TRASHCAN, not cigarette butts, dirty diapers, or steel cans. We only have the two Dillman Foods, one on Central Avenue and one on Roosevelt to save your shopping receipts from. So far this year we have collected $57.51. Please keep bringing your receipts from Dillmans to the church office. Proceeds from these two ministries goes to the Ascension Food Pantry.

Facilities Use Form

In the recent past there have been occasions when misunderstanding regarding the use of various Church facilities by both members and non-members have been apparent. For facilities use other than Worship Services, sometimes confusion regarding who was to do what, what specific part of the facility was to be used, who was to clean-up, who was responsible for the function and lock-up, etc has occurred. To assist everyone with this problem, your Vestry is instituting a sign-up documentation form, which will provide all of the necessary information prior to the event. This form is required at least two weeks before the event and can be obtained from the Office. All non-Worship service functions or facilities use must file this form, whether by church members or non-members in advance of the function. Recurring events such as the ALY youth Sunday night meetings need to file only once a year unless using another part of the facility other than the ALY Room. Thank you for your cooperation!

Is Your Pledge Current?  Please don't forget the fact that the church continues to operate with God's work in programs and outreach, bills, payroll, and maintenance-all must be paid and all require our participation and support.

Adopt-A-Job is posted and in full swing! There's an Adopt-A-Job list on the new bulletin board in the hallway between the Nave and the Little Hall. Please check the list and sign up for a job thus saving Ascension money. Thanks!

Epistle posted on the Internet - It has come to our attention that a number of parishioners are not receiving their copies of the monthly Epistle newsletter in a timely fashion or at all. Please let us know if this applies to you so we may make a case with the Post Office. Note: for those of you with access to the Internet, the Epistle is posted at our Web Site-www.ascension-middletown.org

Nursery Pagers Now Available! Pagers, the vibrating type, are now available to parents taking their children to the nursery. Parents may now rest easy during the church service knowing that the nursery staff can and will contact them if needed. Pagers are proven to reduce parents anxiety, allowing them to focus on the service. Please consider taking advantage of this new addition to our nursery, as we continue to minister to God's precious gift of children.

Note to Children, Parents, or Guardians: There are clipboards in the vestibule for drawing or coloring on during the service. Please do not use the red attendance registration pads or envelopes for this purpose. Thank you.

Can Recycling - We only recycle aluminum pop cans, so please do not put tin or steel cans in the green recycling receptacle next to the dumpster. Thank you.

Parents-We Have a New Changing/Crying Room for Infants! You asked for it-you got it-a new changing/crying room for infants. The room is located 2-doors up the hall from Pastor Walt's office or the room next door to the Sacristy.

A Message for All Time "Love is patient and kind; love is not jealous or boastful; it is not arrogant or rude. Love does not insist on its own way; it is not irritable or resentful; it does not rejoice at wrong, but rejoices in the right. Love bears all things, believes all things, hopes all things, endures all things." I Corinthians 13:4-8

Prayer During Communion - "Where two or three are gathered together in My Name, I am there in the midst of them." Matthew 18:20 NKJV Many of you have asked about the kind of prayer that can be requested at the prayer stations during communion on Saturday night and Sunday morning. Anything that is on your heart is always acceptable and those at the prayer stations will be glad to pray with you for any concern that you have. Ask for prayer for yourself, your friends and family, or you may come in thanksgiving for what the Lord has done in your life. The list is endless. In I Thessalonians 5:17, 18 we are reminded to "pray without ceasing, in everything give thanks; for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus for you." Thank you Jesus for hearing our voices and answering us.
